Hong Kong Sprint: Wellington has something to prove
Watch Asian Racing Report’s David Morgan and Andrew Le Jeune assess the G1 Hong Kong Sprint, which will pit local stars Wellington and Lucky Sweynesse against a four-strong Japanese contingent.
The Hong Kong Sprint is usually seen as a banker for locally-trained gallopers and confidence is high in the home camp that the Japanese raiders will be no match for Sha Tin’s preeminent speedster Wellington.
But the Richard Gibson-trained gelding was beaten by the ascendant four-year-old Lucky Sweynesse in the Jockey Club Sprint last month, and was found to have been feeling an injury.
Meanwhile, four Japanese raiders will attempt to emulate the great Lord Kanaloa, successful in 2012 and 2013, as well as Danon Smash who beat a moderate field of locals two years ago.
